From Dr. Juliet Rohde-Brown: Feeling welcome, accepted and connected in the world does not always come naturally to us. However, if we continually feel unwelcome, isolated, and unworthy, negative expectations of our self and others arise.

A pervasive sense of unwelcomeness has neurological implications, as internal representations of what is expected in relationships and in the world form into neural firing patterns – in which negative expectations are forged into our memory systems, recreating the same pattern of negativity over and over again.

The good news is that we are adaptable creatures, and we can literally alter our neural activity toward a new story. Through practice, in a relaxed, calm state, we can alter our new neural activity in a positive way – creating a new memory of ourselves in the world and in relationship with others.

Sometimes it helps to initiate the process of change by being guided by another at first. These guided visualizations intend to facilitate welcomeness by encouraging a deep understanding of our connection to this Earth we share, and to all life.

This manner of reflection encourages a deep sense of reassurance, which does not depend on external events and circumstances to determine our well-being, but allows the emergence of a mature, sustaining spirituality.

The first guided visualization, “Earth Birth”, comes from a spontaneous experience I had over ten years ago while in an induced trace state during a visit with a Native American elder. The experience of being born in the ocean, then emerging onto a seashore to be welcomed by a rejoicing group, imbued me with such a profound feeling of peace and trust that I wanted to share this with you.

The second guided visualization, “Elephant Guide”, was developed especially for those whose worries and ruminating thoughts keep them from falling into a restful sleep. In many of our world’s traditions, elephants are symbols of wisdom, inner fortitude, support through troubled times, transformation, and the deep knowing part of the self. I have always had a fascination with and appreciation for elephants, and it seemed appropriate to choose an elephant as your sleep shepherd into the dream state.

These guided visualizations do not intend to replace professional medical or psychological treatment. I simply wish to share with you some experiences that I have benefited from, on a purely anecdotal level.

Imagery can be very powerful. If you feel a strong emotion coming up, trust it, allow yourself to flow with it and through it, and if you have not done so already, you may wish to seek some therapeutic support for yourself through referrals in your community.

Composer Peter Morley has carefully created music and sound to accompany these pieces, using tones and rhythm that encourage the listener to bring their breathing and heart rate into alignment with this relaxed tempo, and thus stimulate health and well-being through relaxation, and focused mindfulness.

To prepare yourself for these guided visualizations, make sure you wear loose clothing, and find a comfortable and private space with no expectations for interruption. For the first visualization, you may either sit or lie down. For the second visualization, listen lying down when you are ready for sleep.

I wish for you feelings of welcomeness and inner peace, and the confidence to joyfully express your unique and creative self in the world.

The two guided visualizations on “Feel Forgiveness Now” are designed to guide you into opening your heart and allowing the possibility of forgiveness to enter your life as an opportunity to heal painful experiences and move on and recover from negative acts - both those inflicted upon you, or actions that you may have made toward others.

Dr. Juliet Rohde-Brown has based the guided visualizations in this program on a form of meditation known as Metta. The closest translation of the Buddhist term Metta is ‘lovingkindness’. Metta is a heart-centered practice that involves visualizing oneself and others with an intentional gesture of love and compassion. It is a practice that fosters acceptance, as well as transcendence of negative patterns, habits, and attitudes.

Forgiveness does not equate to condoning. It does not mean that you should give up appropriate and safe interpersonal boundaries or responsibility for hurtful acts. But, forgiveness does mean that can you have compassion for yourself and for others, regardless of events that have occurred. Forgiveness requires a surrendering to the core Self, that part of us that transcends time, place, and attachment. It involves a shift in meaning and perspective. If you already have heart-centered practices that you engage in, you will find value in receiving the specific visualizations offered here. For those of you who do not have a formal practice, consider this program an introduction to a wonderful healing process.

Both visualizations are grounded in the element of water. Water is a universal symbol of renewal. The first visualization involves lying down on warm flat stones in a stream, as cool water spirals around each vertebrae of your spine while you allow yourself to develop the feeling of forgiveness toward another. The second visualization places you in a cave behind a waterfall while you envision your own image and that of others within a glowing light. The symbol of the waterfall exemplifies the ever-changing nature of life, as you broaden your sense of love and compassion.

These visualizations are enhanced by an atmospheric musical soundscape created by Zen Yogi and music composer/producer, Peter Morley (Sri Shanthi Bhavana). The sounds of the movement of the stream, the cascading waterfall, droplets in the cave, and birds in the forest all serve to deepen your experience, using tones and rhythms that encourage you to slow your breathing and heart rate as you center your attention into your heart. His musical and environmental soundscapes arise from the deep place of his own meditation practice.

This album provides a beautiful spoken word guided meditation on all the major chakras, using an imaginal ancient mountain as the foundation upon which to manifest groundedness, and feel supported by, and connected to nature through vibrational energy.

Many people are familiar with the concept of the chakras and with practices that promote the activation and maintenance of energy movement through the body at particular vortex points for the purposes of enhancing wellbeing, healing, and brighter conscious awareness.

For those who do not yet have a strong understanding of the chakras, “Chakra Mountain” can be used as an introduction to this powerful tool for healing and self-understanding. Those who already use chakra meditations as a path to wellbeing will find that this guided visualization and the accompanying music and mantras can help deepen their practice.

Guided visualizations have been used in indigenous practices and spiritual traditions for millennia and have been adopted in integrative Western healthcare for at least the last 25 years. Visualizations have been proven to be effective in promoting relaxation, self-healing and psychological and spiritual insight.

The music of “Chakra Mountain” has been especially created by healing music yogi Shantha Sri (Sri Shanthi Bhavana), based on traditional Indian Ayurvedic healing principles that prescribe specific musical keys and frequencies, as well as chanted mantras, to help stimulate chakra awakening, toning and rejuvenation. Using various world instruments to produce resonant tonal frequencies and sparse cycling melodies, Shantha Sri’s music assists listeners by stimulating the mind toward higher states of concentration.

Most of the world’s traditions have sounds that accompany devotional or mind-focusing practices, and the use of sound is fundamental to Indian healing practices.
